Our main areas of research specialisation include:\n\n\n- US film and television\n\n\n- Hollywood studies\n\n\n- East Asian and global cinema\n\n\n- new media, industrial and audience analysis\n\n\n- film and television history\n\n\n**Why do an MRes?**\nThe MRes is a substantial piece of original work and can be ideal if:\n\n\n- you cannot commit to a PhD but still have a topic you want to research further\n\n\n- your topic doesn't require three-years of PhD study\n\n\n- you want to develop your research and academic skills before starting a PhD\n\n\n**Industry links**\nThe department spearheads the University of Nottingham’s lead higher education partnership with the British Film Institute and collaborates with local media institutions such as the Broadway Cinema (the regional film theatre).\n\nIt also has strong links with Hollywood studios (such as Walt Disney Company) with unique internship opportunities available.\n\nBuilding on its close industry connections, the department is home to the Institute for Screen Industries Research.\n\n**Your department**\n\n\n- Department of Cultural, Media and Visual Studies\n\n\n- 90% of our research environment has been evaluated as ‘world leading’ in the Research Excellence Framework 2021.\n\n\n- A strong interdisciplinary and international perspective.\n",
