"summary": "In this Masters in Global History you will study connections between different parts of the world and draw comparisons across time, space and cultures. It is designed to strengthen your skills as an independent researcher and prepare you for a professional career in an increasingly globalised environment. A major quality of this programme stems from its collaboration with local archives, museums and libraries, allowing you to combine historical theory and practice with hands-on learning.\n\n**WHY THIS PROGRAMME**\n\n\n- This programme offers a unique social history approach to the study of global history, with a strong focus on people and societies in the Global South.\n\n\n- You can draw on the expertise of world leading academics in a wide range of themes, including empire, migration, slavery, conflict and global inequalities.\n\n\n- You will have the option to undertake interdisciplinary study, complementing historical research with, for example, the study of languages, religions or literature.\n\n\n- Glasgow provides a unique setting to develop your research skills in global history, as the city is home to many internationally important historical collections.\n\n\n**PROGRAMME STRUCTURE**\n\nThis programme is comprised of three compulsory courses and three optional courses, one of which you may take outside History. The compulsory courses include one focused on historiography and another on practice; the third is the general course for all postgraduate students in History on research skills and resources. The programme convenor will work with you to construct a sensible portfolio of courses, according to your own aims and objectives. \nCore teaching is delivered in two semesters, followed by an independent dissertation project. The dissertation gives you an opportunity to identify an area of interest and create a research project that allows in-depth study of a specific topic or region. \n\n**Semester One\nCore Courses**\nExploring Global History\nDoing History: Sources and Skills for Historians\n**Optional Courses**\nOne or two optional courses.\n\n**Semester Two\nCore Course**\nGlobal History through Local Archives\n**Optional Courses**\nOne or two optional courses.\n\n**Optional courses**\nOptional courses may include: \nMilitary Scotland in the Age of Proto-globalization, c.1600-c.1800\nThe Global History of Inequalities\nThe Medievalists: the Middle Ages in 20th century Eastern and Central Europe\nThe World of the Crusades: Critical Approaches to Medieval Sources\nQualitative Approaches to the Study of Political Violence\nResistance to Slavery from 1700 to 1900\n\nWith permission from the programme convenor, it may also be possible to choose an option from related subjects within the College of Arts & Humanities. \n\n**Summer**\nDissertation (MSc History) ",
