"entryRequirements": "The normal minimum entrance qualification for the MSc Global Mental Health is a first degree at Upper Second Class Honours (2:1) standard from a UK university, or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard; or a registerable qualification in medicine, appropriate to the programme. A background (study, work or volunteer activities) in a mental health-related field is desirable but not essential. Applications with an appropriate technical qualification, or equivalent qualification and experience from overseas, are also welcomed.\n\nGiven the cross-cutting nature of mental health, the programme caters to a range of disciplinary backgrounds so a psychiatry or psychology background is not mandatory. However, in the absence of a typical disciplinary background for this MSc, applicants will need to use their personal statement to highlight their relevant experience to strengthen their application.\n\nApplications for this course are processed by King's College London, not by LSHTM.\n\nPlease visit our website for full entry requirements for the MSc in Global Mental Health, including English Language requirements if English is not your first language.",

"summary": "Mental ill-health is one of the leading causes of the global burden of disease, with high rates of premature mortality, disability, and human rights violations. Nevertheless, it continues to be neglected worldwide. There is insufficient commitment and investment towards care for those living with psychosocial disabilities, as well as initiatives for mental health promotion and prevention.\n\nStudy our MSc Global Mental Health to be at the forefront of change in this field. Partnering with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London, we pioneered the first specialist course in this area. Our expertise in clinical and public health paired with their long-standing reputation in psychiatry made us the perfect match.\n\nOur course is hosted by the Centre for Global Mental Health. The Centre is dedicated to advancing knowledge and action to reduce inequity in mental health and improve access to high-quality, evidence-based solutions across the world.\n\nCentre members have been at the forefront of many global mental health initiatives. As a student, you’ll hear about their wide range of research, development, engagement, advocacy and capacity-building projects worldwide.\n\nWe offer comprehensive training in all aspects of this evolving and dynamic field. You’ll have the opportunity to interact with leading researchers, public mental health practitioners from different global regions, professionals, and communities across relevant disciplines and sectors.\n\n**What you will learn**\n- Explore the mental health challenges facing low-resource settings around the globe\n\n\n- Create strategies to reduce the burden of mental disorders\n\n\n- Develop research protocols to investigate key epidemiological, intervention and policy issues\n\n\n- Build confidence communicating ideas and research results with policymakers\n\n\n- Apply research skills to monitor and evaluate mental health programmes.\n\n\n**Please note: applications for the 2026/27 academic year are expected to open in November 2025.
