"summary": "**Why choose this course**\nA system-of-systems approach is required for designing new and managing existing infrastructure networks due to their interconnected nature. Understanding the resilience of the built environment against climate change and other external hazards – and how long-term sustainability-driven decision making can assist towards our transition to a net-zero carbon economy – is fundamental towards the safe and efficient functioning of society.\n\nOur unique and accredited Infrastructure Engineering and Management MSc provides you with specialist knowledge that can allow you to target niche positions in infrastructure planning, delivery, operations and asset management. You’ll be taught by academics with a track record in infrastructure issues, together with professionals from industry.\n\nYou will have the opportunity to attend keynote talks from distinguished speakers and participate in an organisation visit related to the topics you’re studying.\n\nYou'll also have the opportunity to undertake a postgraduate placement year if you choose our placement pathway, allowing you to gain crucial workplace experience. We’ll support you in finding a placement with a company most suited to your career goals.\n\n**What you will study**\nThis course is for anyone interested in pursuing a career as an infrastructure engineer, or in a related field. We can:\n- Develop your technical knowledge of infrastructure engineering within a social, economic, environmental and political context\n\n\n- Enhance your understanding of the factors that affect and drive infrastructure planning and funding\n\n\n- Equip you with the skills to assess the interdependent nature of infrastructure across different sectors.\n\n\nYou’ll acquire a sound understanding of the entire life cycle of infrastructure assets, the environmental impact of infrastructure projects, building information modelling (BIM), sustainable decision-making and formal asset-management techniques.\n\nYou’ll be able to use the knowledge you gain from this course for the creation of new infrastructure as well as the management of existing systems.",
