"summary": "We combine a long tradition in a field of scholarship pioneered at Sussex with a commitment to fostering new and emerging fields of inquiry.\n\nCore supervisory expertise is offered in:\n\n\n- British political thought 1500-1900\n\n\n- early modern intellectual history\n\n\n- the Scottish Enlightenment and 18th-century political thought\n\n\n- political thought in 19th-century Europe.\n\n\nWe also welcome outstanding applications in adjacent areas that reflect Sussex’s interdisciplinary approach to intellectual history, which has traditionally spanned history, literature, philosophy, classics, politics, economics and theology.\n\nWe understand that deciding where and what to study is a very important decision.
