A PhD is an opportunity to expand upon your interests and expertise as part of an active research community making impact across the globe. Join us at the heart of Scotland’s capital and festival city. \n\nItalian has been studied at the University of Edinburgh since the eighteenth century, and the first lectureship in the subject was established in 1919. More than a century on, our expertise spans a broad area of study, from medieval to contemporary culture.\n\nWe offer a distinctive, interdisciplinary environment where Italian can be explored through one or more approaches:\n\n\n* critical\n\n\n* creative\n\n\n* practice-led\n\n\nWe connect literature, media, philosophy, and politics with cutting-edge research in the environmental and digital humanities.\n\nOver the course of your PhD, you will complete an original body of work under the expert guidance of at least two supervisors.
