"assessmentMethods": "Most modules use a mixture of formal lectures, practical lab sessions, tutorials and seminars. Some modules involve supervised group work, usually with an assigned academic staff member for each group. All modules require students to undertake independent study, supported through distance learning technologies such as our Virtual Learning Environment. Reading lists and suggested resources for independent study provide further direction for students to undertake this work, and regular contact hours and informal feedback throughout the courses provide opportunities for further guidance for learners. Assessments for modules mostly take the form of practical coursework, lab tests and written exams, with all forms being well represented throughout all years of the course across all modules.",

"summary": "This BEng programme equips you with the underlying knowledge and skills you need to become a creative Civil and Structural Engineer, capable of planning, designing and overseeing the construction of sustainable structures and transport infrastructure systems.\n\nCivil and structural Engineering involves the design, construction and maintenance and repair infrastructure such as roads and bridges, buildings, and underground transport systems.\n\nYou’ll develop a broad knowledge of geotechnical, structural, environmental and management aspects of civil engineering, and gain the computing, mathematical, drawing and communication skills you need as an engineer.\n\nA placement year in industry, taken in year three of the programme, enables you to build contacts whilst developing your skills and professional confidence.\n\nOn completion of the programme you’ll be able to enter range of graduate civil engineering roles. Our employability rate is 97% - one of the highest in the UK.\n\nYou’ll be joining a dynamic profession with a high demand for skilled graduates, and contribute to the prosperity of our society.\n\nWe also offer a 5-year MEng version of the programme. The additional academic year enables further study of the technical and managerial aspects of civil and structural engineering, and provides the fastest route to Chartered Engineer status. \n\n**Professional accreditation**\nThis degree is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) comprising the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Institute of Highway Engineers, and the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation on behalf of the Engineering Council as:\n\n\n1. Fully satisfying the educational base for an Incorporated Engineer (IEng)\n2. Partially satisfying the educational base for a Chartered Engineer (CEng)\n\n\nA programme of accredited Further Learning will be required to complete the educational base for CEng.\n\nThe degree is also recognised by ENAEE (European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education).\n\n**Placement** \nThis programme offers you the opportunity to take up a placement year working in industry in your third year.\n\nThe placement year is an excellent way to develop your professional experience, build industry contacts, and gain insight into the day-to-day work of a professional engineer.\n\nAfter completing your placement you’ll return to complete the final year of the programme, and apply all you’ve learnt to studies.
