"summary": "**This new one-year full-time Higher National Certificate Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) course will give you the skills and knowledge needed to progress your career in the fascinating, challenging world of electrical and electronic engineering.**\n\n**About the course**\n\nElectrical engineers are sought after worldwide across the private and public sector, from transport to healthcare, and education to construction.\n\nWe’ll develop your knowledge across a range of core and more specialist units. The course will suit you if you’ve completed relevant studies at an advanced level (A Level or equivalent) or have relevant industry experience and want to pursue a career in electrical and/or electronic engineering.\n\nThe course contains significant project-based learning including: laboratory investigations, design work, projects, case studies and tutorials.\n\nYou’ll undertake independent study and practical problem-solving alongside more traditional methods such as tutorials. You will develop your communication skills and the application of computers in engineering.\n\n**Core units:**\n\n-Engineering Design \n-Engineering Maths \n-Managing a Professional Engineering Project \n\n**Specialist units**\n\n-Automation, Robotics and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) \n-Electrical and Electronic Principles \n-Electrical Machines \n-Production Engineering for Manufacture \n-Quality and Process Improvement \n\n**Assessment**\n\nCoursework is continually assessed through a variety of individual and group assignments, such as practical activities, written reports and presentations.\n\n**What are HTQs?**\n\nHigher Technical Qualifications are new or redesigned Level 4 and 5 qualifications (such as HNCs and HNDs) that have been approved against occupational standards in their sector. These qualifications have been developed by UK awarding bodies, working with employers and businesses to make sure that students get the specific training, knowledge and skills they need for their chosen career.\n\n**Bursaries**\n\nWe want our courses to be accessible to students from any background, so we’ve put together a cash support package in the form of non-repayable bursaries to provide financial help where it’s really needed. Details for 2025-26 will be advertised once approved by the university regulator – the Office for Students (OfS).
