"modules": "**Year One:**\n\nDuring Year 1, you’ll develop a wide range of foundational methods and skills, learn to analyse and refine problem statements, explore concepts from diverse academic disciplines, and consider how to integrate your knowledge to answer the questions that matter. \n\n<details>\n<summary>**Compulsory Foundational Modules:**</summary>\n<be> \n - Problems 1a: Social Issues\n - Problems 1b: Global Environmental Change\n - Problems 1c: Independent Project\n</details>\n<details>\n<summary>**Compulsory Qualitative and Quantitative Methods:**</summary>\n<be> \n - Qualitative Methods 1a: Language and Communication\n - Quantitative Methods 1a: Thinking like a Scientist\n - Qualitative Methods 1b: Images and Systems\n - Quantitative Methods 1b: Thinking Through Data\n</details>\n\n**Year Two:**\n\nIn year 2, you’ll work on a new problem statement each term, build up your expertise in particular methods, and gain new conceptual frameworks to help you think across disciplines, in the form of ‘superconcepts’ and mental models.\n\nPlease note that the optional methods modules listed for year 2 are indicative, to give you a sense of what you might study during your time at LIS.\n\n<details>\n<summary>**Compulsory Problems and Superconcepts Modules:**</summary>\n<be> \n - Problems 2a: AI and Ethics\n - Problems 2b: Urban Futures\n - Problems 2c: Individual Project\n - Mental Models and Superconcepts: Interdisciplinary Ways to View the World\n</details>\n<details>\n<summary>**Plus a Choice of Three Qualitative and Quantitative Electives**</summary>\n<be> \n - Intermediate Quantitative Modelling\n - Data Science and Machine Learning in Practice\n - Materials and Making\n - Design Thinking\n - Visual and Creative Methods\n - Networks and Games\n - Natural Language Processing\n - Thinking Through Writing\n - Telling the Story of a Wicked Problem\n</details>\n\n**Year Three:**\n\nYou will study at one of our international partners, selecting your modules from their wide range of available courses for Year Abroad students. Check out our website for more details.\n \n**Year Four:**\n\nYou’ll choose 5 options from a selection of modules, with at least 1x quantitative and 1x qualitative method included in your curriculum. You’ll also explore mixed methods in more depth. These final modules will help shape your Capstone Project.\n\n**Capstone Project:**\nThe Capstone Project is an opportunity for you to work on a complex problem of your choice. You’ll apply a combination of methods to understand a problem of interest to you and develop a plan of action.\n\n**Mixed Methods and Interdisciplinarity:**\nBuilding on your work in Years 1 and 2, this module solidifies your skillset for combining different methods and disciplines critically and ethically. The topics prepare you for the level of many master’s or research degree programmes, as well as knowledge-rich roles in business and the public sector.\n\n<details>\n<summary>**Quantitative Methods III**</summary>\n<br> You’ll choose at least one and up to four quantitative methods modules:\n \n - Data Science and Machine Learning in Practice\n - Intermediate Quantitative Modelling\n - Advanced Case Studies in Data Science and Machine Learning\n - Advanced Quantitative Modelling\n - Simplifying Complexity\n - Network and Games\n</details>\n<details>\n<summary>**Qualitative Methods III**</summary>\n<br>You’ll choose at least one and up to four quantitative methods modules:\n \n - Design thinking\n - Global thinking\n - Thinking Through Writing\n - Applied Ethnography, Practical Ethics\n - Communities & Campaigning\n</details>\n<details>\n<summary>**Mixed Methods**</summary>\n<be>\n - The Matter of Thought: Speculative Sense-making and Sensory Data\n - Encountering Ecosystems Through Mixed Methods Research and Practice\n</details>",

Instead, our interdisciplinary programme will make use of a variety of assessment methods throughout the year, like presenting group pitches to a real audience, conducting individual research projects, writing a group consultancy report, creating videos and podcasts, designing a publicity campaign or completing short, interactive quizzes.\n\nThese assessments will be challenging but also fair, engaging, and varied — reflecting the kinds of outputs you’d be expected to produce throughout a professional career.",

This fee covers all elements of your registration, enrolment, tuition, supervision and assessment for the full academic year. It doesn’t cover living costs, books, materials (including a laptop), or travel.\n\nPlease note that in order to access the programme, you’ll need your own portable computer device uploaded with Microsoft Office (Student Version). If owing to personal circumstances you cannot purchase a personal device, LIS has a “laptop bank” to provide for students who have a short-term device requirement. We’re here to help, so just let us know if you need support.\n\nFor more information, please visit www.lis.ac.uk/undergraduate-degree/fees",
