"summary": "Study a software engineering degree with us and you’ll build the essential skills you need to work with software systems – opening the door to a range of career opportunities. You’ll cover all aspects of the software engineering process, with a focus on the methodical approach to robust, error-free software design and development. \n\nIn your first year, you’ll start with the core principles of computing, how to build software applications, web development and a team project which tackles a real world inspired challenge. \n\nAs you progress, you’ll develop full-stack web development, secure coding, as well as advanced development skills in a range of programming languages. You’ll also tackle team-based projects and a large-scale software project in your final year. This will help you to build vital project management skills, as well as giving you a sound understanding of the role of software development tools within the software life cycle. \n\nOur BSc (Hons) Software Engineering and BSc (Hons) Computer Science degrees share a common first year, allowing you to switch between these courses at the end of your first year. \n\nThis course is available with a foundation year. \n\n**FEATURES AND BENEFITS**\n- The four-year placement route gives you the opportunity to spend your third year on industry placement, boosting your employment prospects on graduation. This may be subject to availability.\n\n\n- You will experience what it's like to work as part of a professional team, finding solutions to complex problems via group projects.\n\n\nYou can get involved with extracurricular work to further apply your skills, such as hackathons, gaming events and the Students’ Union Computing Society.\n\n\n- This course shares a common first year with our BSc (Hons) Computer Science course, allowing you to transfer between these courses after Year 1 as you develop your areas of interest.\n\n\n- We’ve invested over £115 million to transform the way we teach and the way our students learn. The new Dalton building is equipped with dynamic learning spaces, world-class teaching and research facilities and collaborative study zones. This means you’ll graduate with the skills and experiences employers look for. \n\n\n- Our excellent facilities include teaching laboratories equipped with high-specification PCs, with specialist, industry-standard software running on either Windows or Linux.\n\n\n- We have specialist labs including a games lab equipped with gaming chairs, keyboards and mice used for our eSports events and a user experience lab with an eye-tracking system.\n\n\n- Our dedicated drop-in lab provides an informal social working space with regular support sessions from our programme support tutors.\n",
