"summary": "**94% of our research overall in English Language and Literature was assessed to be world leading or internationally excellent (REF 2021)**\n\n**Top 100 in the world for English Language and Literature (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023)**\n\n**About the course**\n\nPursue your interests in theatre, performance and literature.\n\nOur Drama and English BA gives you the chance to explore theatre through a distinctive combination of practice and theory, developing your skills in performance-making and analysis.\n\nWe offer a bold, forward-thinking curriculum that allows you to study a thousand years of literature in new and progressive ways. Our teaching has involved:\n\n\n- working with unique archives such as the private letters of Virginia Woolf and Doris Lessing\n\n\n- field trips to literary landmarks such as Woolf’s house and the Globe Theatre.\n\n\nWe encourage you to experiment with writing and understand its ability to transform the world we live in. You’ll be supported by our experts. They have links with the creative industries, as well as literary events such as the poetry series Placeholder and the festival The Coast is Queer. \n\nAcross the degree, you’ll examine the larger cultural forces that shape literature and performance in order to produce your own critical and creative responses to the world we live in today.\n\n**About Sussex**\n\nOur courses, research, culture and campus aim to stimulate, excite and challenge.
