"summary": "English and journalism have long been natural partners and our multimedia joint honours places a modern spin on this most enduring of relationships. Manchester has one of the biggest digital and creative sectors in the UK. With MediaCityUK located nearby, home to the BBC and ITV, Manchester is an ideal place for an ambitious journalist to build a network, gain experience and boost their career prospects. You’ll be provided with opportunities to work on live events and current affairs (both nationally and internationally) – gaining experience of working to briefs and professional deadlines.\n\nBA (Hons) English and Multimedia Journalism aims to prepare you for the demands of the modern media environment. You’ll learn from accomplished reporters and editors, drawing on extensive newsroom experience to give you industry-relevant understanding and insights. You will have access to high-spec, industry-standard television and radio studios, a newsroom, edit suites and public-facing digital platforms, enabling you to develop a real-world portfolio of journalism to showcase your work to prospective employers.\n\nOn your English modules, you will analyse literature in all its forms, particularly from the Victorian period to the present day, and consider literature’s relationship to its many cultural counterparts, including film, creative writing, art and popular culture. You will develop a range of subject-specific and transferable skills, which will set you up for success in the future, whether that be in journalism or other creative industries. Along the way, you’ll be supported by academics who are leading researchers in their fields – you can find out more about our English research groups here.\n\nFrom your first year, your learning will be internationally engaged and you will have the opportunity to work with academics who are internationally renowned in their fields. You’ll be trained to evaluate shared assumptions about the world through decolonised learning resources and curricula, and engage with our cultural partners, finding inspiration in the diverse stories of Manchester as a UNESCO City of Literature.\n\nOur assessments will help you build your confidence and independence, and develop further expertise by challenging you to acquire new skills that are highly valued in the workplace.
