"summary": "BA Sociology with integrated Foundation Year degree, at Aberystwyth University, will train you to develop a critical awareness of and engagement with the social world. Following the foundation year, the syllabus of this course is identical to its sister course [Sociology, L300].\n\nBy studying this course, you will develop a thorough grounding in the conceptual and theoretical approaches that have been employed by sociologists to study the world around us. You will also develop your ability to analyse social phenomena through training in the collection, analysis and presentation of sociological data. Some of the distinctive aspects of Aberystwyth’s approach to Sociology include: \n\n\n- Emphasising the value and significance of a field-based approach to Sociology, with field exercises being integrated into lecture modules, and a dedicated Field-Based Sociology module in year 2;\n\n\n- Integrating more applied perspectives into the teaching that we undertake on key themes and concepts in Sociology to demonstrate its real-world significance (and, in doing so, help with the employability of our Sociology graduates); \n\n\n- Drawing on our research strengths and to ensure that students are exposed to cutting-edge theoretical and empirical understandings of the social world.\n\n\n**Benefits of Foundation Year**\n\nA degree course with a foundation year enables you to gain the knowledge and skills required to succeed at degree-level studies. In addition, many of our Foundation year schemes offer some flexibility within the subject area giving you more time to decide on a specific subject pathway.\n\nDuring the Foundation year of the degree, you will explore a range of subjects, develop essential skills such as research and critical analysis, developing arguments and self-evaluation. \n\nFoundation year students have full access to all campus facilities, societies and everything else that Aberystwyth students’ community has to offer. You will be supported by the University personal tutor system and have access to Student Support and Careers Services. Funding and availability of student loans are identical to all other undergraduates and you can apply for a place through UCAS in the same way as any other of our undergraduate degrees.",
