"furtherInformation": "All applicants to the University (from the UK and Overseas) are required to show evidence of English Language proficiency. The minimum English Language requirement for this course is:\n\nGCSE/IGCSE English Language grade B/6, or;\n\nIELTS 7.0 overall with 6.5 in each component, or;\n\nAn acceptable equivalent qualification.\n\nPlease note that if you hold English as a second language iGCSE qualification, we may also require you to offer one of our acceptable equivalent English Language qualifications or achieve a higher grade in your iGCSE than the one stated above. Please contact the academic School for clarification.\n\nThe UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires that every student from outside the UK and the EU must show evidence of a minimum level of English Language in order to be granted a UK visa (Tier 4 visa) to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level. This level is often referred to as the 'B2 level'.\n\nAdditionally, our individual Schools may ask for specific English Language proficiency levels that are necessary for their academic programmes. In most cases these requirements are likely to be higher than the B2 level."

"summary": "Our BA Linguistics and Sociology course will introduce you to the study of the unique human faculty of language and the investigation of the world's languages, while also delving into people's social context and their webs of connection to understand individual behaviour. In Linguistics, you will explore the sounds and structure of languages across the globe, studying topics such as: \n\n\n- how languages arise, change and die;\n\n\n- how children acquire their first language;\n\n\n- how adults learn a second or foreign language;\n\n\n- differences between the speech of men and women;\n\n\n- how we communicate as individuals and within groups;\n\n\n- what happens when speakers of different languages come into contact. \n\n\nYou'll also be able to use quantitative methods in the study of large language corpora. \n\nThis is a skill which you'll then be able to apply to other fields throughout your life. \n\nIn Sociology, you will develop the skills to analyse and interpret contemporary social challenges. \n\nYou will explore how claims about social life are based on types of evidence and develop the ability to critically assess them. \n\nSociology can cover many different topics, from reproduction of inequalities in relation to social categories (such as race, class or gender), to the shaping of intimate relationships by wider cultural contexts, or the generation of resistance and protest by economic trends and crises.",
