"summary": "**Please use the 2025 cycle application to apply for the March 2025 entry of this course. Applications for March 2026 will open later in the year.**\n\n**This is an 18 month top-up degree course for students who already have an FdSc Nursing Associate qualification.**\n\nMental health nurses play an important role in the health and well-being of people with mental health problems and their families and carers. Our degree in mental health nursing prepares you for the role and responsibilities as a registered mental health nurse. We provide you with the skills to meet the diverse needs of people with mental health problems, including those with complex needs. You will learn accountability for the role you will play in their lives.\n\nWe prepare you to apply for registration as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Our course will help you achieve the outcomes identified in the NMC Standards Framework for Pre-registration Nursing Programmes (2019).\n\nWe have excellent links with the National Health Service (NHS) and other care providers and will arrange your placements in both hospitals and community settings, including GP practices, with community nurses and health visitors. You will spend 50% of your time each year in these valuable work placements. It is here that you will be assessed by qualified practitioners.\n\nSuccessful completion of this course will equip you to work as a Registered Mental Health Nurse in various settings, such as the hospital, community, prisons, secure settings and primary care.\n\nIt also helps you develop a wide range of transferable skills which will enhance your career development and progression within the mental health arena.",
