This is the case for all applicants, including UK nationals. You can meet our English language requirements with qualifications from school or an English language test. "summary": "Two of the most widely spoken languages in the world, Spanish and Portuguese are your gateway to a great many countries and cultures in Europe, Africa and the Americas.\n\nOur joint honours programme will give you the opportunity to develop advanced spoken and written skills in both languages.\n\nAs well as intensive language training, you will be immersed in an extraordinary range of literature, film, poetry and theatre from around the world, explored in its historical context.\n\nMany of our graduates started as complete beginners in Portuguese. By the end of the programme, you will be able to demonstrate a range of linguistic skills and a crucial intercultural awareness.\n\n**Why Edinburgh**\n\nAs a world-leading festival and capital city, Edinburgh is a fantastic place to study two global languages in their cultural context.\n\nWe are unique in Scotland in offering students a full academic year abroad within the four-year honours programme, regardless of whether you spend the year studying or working.\n\nStudying over four years enables you to choose courses, including from other disciplines, that match your own interests, expertise and employability needs. You can, for example, opt to take courses in other subjects, or broaden your linguistic portfolio by studying Catalan or Basque.\n\n**How long it takes to complete this degree programme**\n\nThis programme is studied over 4 years, including a year abroad.
