"summary": "Sports and exercise therapy is a strand of healthcare that specifically focuses on the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of patients back to optimal levels of occupational, functional and sports specific fitness. This degree course has roots within the core disciplines of sport and exercise science, incorporating specific skills and knowledge development to allow you to work in clinical and non-clinical settings to prevent and rehabilitate injuries. \n\nThis is an applied programme that is aligned to the vocational skills, knowledge and abilities that are required in industry.\n\nUpon successful completion of the course you will be eligible for full membership to The Society of Sports Therapists.\n\n**What will I study?**\nYear 1\n- Functional Anatomy\n\n\n- Physiology of Sport Performance \n\n\n- Soft Tissue Treatment ·\n\n\n- Exercise Therapy \n\n\n- Academic and Professional Development \n\n\n- Research Skills\n\n\nYear 2\n· Biomechanics and Movement Analysis \n· Peripheral Musculoskeletal Assessment \n· Injury Rehabilitation \n· Peripheral Mobilisations \n· Professional Practice and Development \n· Research Methods\n\nYear 3\n· Advanced Assessment and Treatment \n· Advanced Fitness Conditioning \n· Sport Trauma Management\n· Professional Practice and Development 2 \n· Dissertation\n\n**Learning and Teaching Approach**\nThis programme is delivered with a variety of learning and teaching approaches to include all students learning styles and preferences. For all modules, theory lectures are delivered that aim to deliver the core content and provide the underpinning knowledge. To complement the theory lectures, students have group seminars / practical sessions that are used to reinforce concepts delivered theoretically. The teaching methods focus on facilitating a student centered approach to enhance the independent learning that takes place outside of the classroom.\n\n**Contact Time**\nApproximately 12-16 hours a week to include lectures, seminars, practical's and tutorials. Students are also expected to carry out a significant amount of private study in addition to contact time (25-30 hours a week). Independent study includes reading around the subject, preparing for tutorials and seminars, preparing for, and completing, module assessments and revision for examinations; forming an essential part of your learning journey. \n\nWednesday afternoons are reserved for sport and other extra-curricular activities.\n\nYou can expect to receive your timetable during induction week. \n**Work Experience**\nYou must complete a minimum of 200 hours of work placement throughout the duration of the programme. A minimum of 80 hours placement must be accrued externally during year three. Across the three years of the programme there will be opportunities to accrue internal experience. This may include supporting and leading on pitch-side first aid provision, supporting and leading on sport therapy clinics.\n\n**What else can I expect?**\n- Additional facilities include Science Centre, IT suites, dedicated University Centre, study spaces and social areas, and modern Learning Resources Centre.\n\n\n- Online Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) used to enhance and facilitate teaching and independent learning on all programmes.\n\n\n- Our experienced Life Coaches are on hand to help you through your University journey from mentoring and coaching to health, wellbeing and resilience.
