"summary": "The BSc (Hons) Sports, Coaching and Development programme is aimed at candidates wanting to pursue a career within the sports coaching, physical education or sports development fields. The teaching and learning through theory and practical based sessions will emphasise the application of theory to practice. The purpose of this programme will be to equip students with the underpinning knowledge and skills to coach within multi-skill, multi-sport, educational, sport-specific or sport development environments. \n\n**What will I study?**\nYear 1:\n· Functional Anatomy & Biomechanics Physiology of Sport Performance Foundations of Sports Coaching \n· Fundamentals of Sport and Exercise Psychology \n· Introduction to Research Skills\n· The Sports Development Landscape\n\nYear 2:\n· Analysing Sports Performance \n· Applied Sports Coaching \n· Community Sports Development \n· Principles of Strength and Conditioning \n· Professional Practice and Development \n· Research Methods and Analysis\n\nYear 3:\n· Coaching Specialist Populations \n· Dissertation \n· Managing Sports Businesses and Partnerships\n· Supervised Experience \n· Talent Identification and Development\n\n**Learning and Teaching Approach**\nThis programme is delivered with a variety of learning and teaching approaches. For all modules, theory lectures are delivered that aim to deliver the core content and provide the underpinning knowledge. To complement the theory lectures, students have group seminars/practical sessions that are used to reinforce concepts delivered theoretically.\n\nThe teaching methods focus on facilitating a student-centred approach to enhance the independent learning that takes place outside of the classroom.\n\n**Contact Time**\nContact time includes approximately 12-16 hours a week to include lectures, seminars, practicals and tutorials.\n\nStudents are also expected to carry out a significant amount of independent study in addition to contact time (approximately 25-30 hours a week).\n\nIndependent study includes reading around the subject, preparing for tutorials and seminars, preparing for, and completing, module assessments and revision for examinations; forming an essential part of a student’s learning journey.\n\nYou can expect to receive your timetable during induction week. \n\n**What else can I expect?**\n- Additional facilities include Science Centre, IT suites, dedicated University Centre, study spaces and social areas, and modern Learning Resources Centre.\n\n\n- Online Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) used to enhance and facilitate teaching and independent learning on all programmes.\n\n\n- Experienced, supportive and motivated staff with both academic and industrial experience.\n\n\n- Our experienced Life Coaches are on hand to help you through your University journey from mentoring and coaching to health, wellbeing and resilience.
