From day one, you’ll work hands-on with people across a range of sports and abilities, building your expertise in coaching, physical activity, sports science and inclusive practice.\n\nIn your first year, you’ll cover the fundamentals of sports coaching, learning key coaching techniques and educational principles that form the foundation of effective coaching. To support you in this journey, you'll be assigned a Personal Academic Tutor (this will be one of your lecturers) who will guide you throughout your studies.\n\nYou'll go on to focus on performance analysis, developing practical skills in data collection, video analysis, and performance evaluation. With hands-on experience working with athletes and teams, you’ll learn how to provide meaningful insights that drive performance improvements.\n\n**Placements**\n\nThroughout the course, you’ll engage in practical coaching activities, gaining valuable experience that prepares you for the realities of a career in the sports industry.\n\nA 100-hour work placement in your third year lets you apply your skills in a real-world setting, where you’ll work with individuals and teams in sports clubs, schools or community programmes. Recent students have been involved in coaching placements with sports organisations like the Gloucestershire Rugby Foundation, West Bromwich Albion Academy, and the Worcester Wolves Wheelchair Basketball Club. These placements provide essential hands-on experience and help you build a professional network in the sports sector.\n\n**Future employment**\n\nThe placements, practical sessions and coaching opportunities you’ll have throughout the course give you plenty to write about on your CV and help you build a network of contacts in the sports industry.\n\nYou’ll graduate with the skills, knowledge, confidence and experience to progress into a range of sports roles.
