In particular, the statistical techniques element provides foundational knowledge for the Data Analytics & AI module at Level 5.\n\nMechatronic Systems and Control- The fundamentals covered in this module will build knowledge of current automation technology so you can understand the progress represented by emerging technologies covered in the IIOT (Industrial Internet of Things) Module.\n\nProgramming Fundamentals- You will understand the key principles of programming languages and tools and be able to create solutions to simulated industry related challenges (programming small robots) to meet user requirements, including testing and reviewing the quality of systems being developed.\n\nIndustrial Internet of Things (IIOT)- You will understand the importance of digitalisation and real time data capture using current and emerging data acquisition methods and how it takes place in modern manufacturing.\n\nDigital Manufacturing Infrastructure- You will understand the uses and application of Industry 3.0 and Industry 4.0 automation technology used in modern manufacturing and gain an insight into the various technologies that will play a critical role in current manufacturing facilities and smart factories. You will also understand how an IIoT eco-system works in digital transformation.\n\nScience for Modern Engineering Technicians- You will gain an understanding of science fundamentals which is required when undertaking a technical role within engineering and this module will provide the knowledge and skills required to assist with the design, specification, and maintenance of basic machinery.\n\nYear 2 Modules (Level 5):\n\nComputer Aided Engineering- You will develop an understanding of good design practice using 3D modelling software, design simulation and/or prototyping techniques. You will also will also get an insight into creating manufacturing and/or assembly process simulation using industry standard software.\n\nManufacturing Systems Management- You will learn how organisations are managed at a strategic and operational level. In particular, you will see how data is used to enable good decision making and how technology and digital transformation affect the performance of an organisation.\n\nData Analytics and Artificial Intelligence- You will be able to design and apply data modelling techniques, examine and apply dataset pre-processing techniques and utilise online application processing and data mining techniques.\n\nIIOT Data Security- You will understand the need for IT (Information Technology) /OT (Operational Technology) convergence data security in industrial settings. You will be able to investigate the impact of IIoT data security breaches on manufacturing enterprises and know how IIoT devices can expose smart factories to potential data breaches.\n\nWork Based Learning- You will be involved in a substantial work-based project, the execution of which will require knowledge of the subject areas and the ability to exercise judgement in their application.",

"summary": "**The Foundation Degree in Digital Engineering for Modern Manufacturing is validated by The Open University.**\n\n**Why study this course?**\nThis programme is designed to equip you with digital engineering skills required in modern manufacturing. Industry 4.0 or the 4th Industrial Revolution sees machines and computers working together.\n\nThis programme will give you an invaluable insight into the future of manufacturing. It's like giving manufacturing processes a high-tech makeover where we connect machines and equipment to digital systems. Using Data Analytics, engineers can make quick decisions and predict the future with the support of Artificial Intelligence.\n\nMany local manufacturing facilities are highly automated and are ready to take the next steps into digitally transforming their operations. In order to do so, it is important that their engineers and technicians understand the fundamentals of mechatronics and automation but also have the skills to help transform the business. On this programme you will learn the fundamentals but will also gain a valuable insight into how data analytics and AI can help take operations to the next level. For factories that have older equipment, you will learn how to integrate older equipment into digital systems using industrial internet of things (IIOT) solutions.\n\n**About the course**\nThis 2-year Foundation Degree is delivered over 4 semesters. In year 1 learners will cover core engineering principles and practices whilst gaining an appreciation of new and emerging technologies. In year 2 of the programme students will continue to study a range of contemporary modules whilst having the opportunity to undertake a structured work-based learning placement within the engineering industry. \n\nIt is the responsibility of the student to obtain a suitable work placement employer, however, the college may be able to provide some assistance. This is a 2-Year Programme and course fees are payable in each year of study.\n\n**How will it make me more employable?**\nhis course will equip you with formal qualifications which will improve your job opportunities and employability skills in the engineering sector.\n\nYou will also gain a range of soft skills regarded as highly desirable by employers and you will receive training on a wide range of industry standard equipment and software.\n\n**Technical Skills**\n• CAD skills (for example Solidworks)\n• Practical skills (PLCs, Mechatronics, programming)\n• Design Tools and Techniques\n• Project Management Skills\n\n**Employability Skills**\n• Critical Thinking\n• Emotional Intelligence\n• Entrepreneurship\n• Leadership\n• Reflective Practice\n• Decision Making\n• Team Working\n\n**Where will it take me?**\nSuccessful completion of this course will enable you to apply for jobs in the engineering/manufacturing industry or alternatively, you would be eligible to apply to related degree programmes. Entry requirements and year of entry are subject to the University.",
