"furtherInformation": "You must prove that you can read, write, listen and speak in the English language at a level that will allow you to succeed in your studies. This is the case for all applicants, including UK nationals. You can meet our English language requirements with qualifications from school or an English language test. We accept any of the following, at the specified grade or higher: SQA National 5: English at C;\nGCSE: English at C or 4; Level 2 Certificate: English at C; International Baccalaureate (IB) Standard Level: English at 5 (English ab initio is not accepted for entry). Before you apply, check the required subjects for this programme, as you may need a higher English grade to meet the academic requirements. We also accept other qualifications from around the world. Combining the linguistic and cultural study of languages demonstrates that you are a good communicator, a resilient problem solver, and someone open to other cultures and new ideas.\n\nTogether with your core courses, the options you will take on this programme can help you gain skills in many areas of the arts, humanities and social sciences.\n\nAdditionally, we are unique in Scotland in offering students a full academic year abroad within the four-year honours programme, regardless of whether you spend the year studying or working.\n\n**German**\n\nAs a world-leading festival and capital city, Edinburgh is a fantastic place to study a modern language in its cultural context. German has been taught here since 1894, making it one of the first modern European languages to be offered at the University of Edinburgh.\n\nAcross four years, including a year abroad, your studies will give you the chance to gain professional skills in all aspects of German, including:\n\n\n* reading and listening\n\n\n* writing and translating\n\n\n* speaking and presenting\n\n\nAs well as language learning, you will explore German-language literature, film and theatre.
