"summary": "**The foundation year will prepare you to study nursing by building on your health care, science, and research knowledge. Successful completion of the foundation year guarantees your progression on to our three-year Child Nursing degree.**\n\nYour first year will build up your knowledge of the fundamentals of human anatomy and the core principles of care, where you will learn and collaborate with students of other healthcare professions. With a focus on key study skills and techniques, the integrated foundation year will ease the transition of studying at degree-level, whether you’re joining us from school, college, or employment.\n\nAlongside seminars, lectures and one-to-one tutorials you’ll also have many skills sessions to prepare you for your placements in the final three years of the course. These hands-on sessions take place in our simulation suites, which replicate the hospital and community facilities you’ll be working in when you graduate. You’ll practice different techniques and decision-making scenarios with a range of simulation manikins and learn about person-centred care from experienced nurses and real service users.\n\nYou’ll put your knowledge and decision making into practice with placement opportunities in the community where you will be working with children, young people, and their families. Placement settings include hospitals, day care centres, schools, hospices, clinics and in the community.\n\n**Placements**\n\nThere are no placements during the foundation year.\n\nPlacement hours are built into the final three years of the course, where your time will be split between learning on campus and developing your skills on placements across the midlands region. Your placements run in blocks across the year, normally with experiences in at least two different placement settings each year.\n\nWhile out on placement you’ll learn from experienced nurses and have the support of your tutors. These practical experiences, in combination with your time on campus, prepare you to be a skilled, compassionate, and confident child nurse.\n\nWe aim to arrange placements and visits to a diverse range of settings so you’ll have experience caring for a range of people in many different environments. We have excellent links with NHS Trusts and healthcare providers in the region, including:\n\n\n- Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust\n\n\n- Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health & Care Trust\n\n\n- University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust\n\n\n- The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust\n\n\n- Wye Valley NHS Trust\n\n\n- Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust\n\n\n- Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust\n\n\n**Why the University of Worcester?**\nThe University of Worcester is a campus university, meaning everything you need is on site.
