"summary": "**Our sports science courses rank 6th in the UK in their subject field for career prospects** (The Guardian University Guide, 2026).\n\nIf you are fascinated by the science behind sport and exercise performance, this course gives you the opportunity to learn from and be part of a world-leading research team, using state-of-the-art equipment and facilities in a high-performance environment. The course combines scientific knowledge and sports performance with lab work, and offers specialist units in biomechanics, exercise physiology and social psychology, to name a few.\n\n**Foundation Year**\nIn the Foundation year you will study three days per week. The focus will be on academic writing skills and numeracy, plus subject-specific content to fully prepare you for entry to an Undergraduate degree. It provides a balance between content related to your chosen subject and the range of wider skills required for undergraduate study. This is an integrated four-year degree, with the foundation year as a key part of the course. You will be required to pass the foundation year in order to progress to the first year of your degree. This course is ideal for those who do not meet our standard entry requirements or those with a non-standard educational background. It will allow you to graduate with a full undergraduate degree in your chosen subject in four years.\n\n**Course accreditation/industry endorsement**\nThis course is endorsed by the Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (CASES) and the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA), allowing you to work towards CIMSPA professional standards in gym instruction, personal training and working with people with long-term conditions.\n\n**Facilities and specialist equipment**\nSix CASES-accredited laboratories \nEnvironmental chamber \nBiochemical analysis laboratory \nMechanical treadmill \nExpired gas analysis \nHydrostatic weighing tank\nBiomechanics labs with 3D camera system\nEchocardiogram machine\nPurpose-built strength and conditioning facility with Olympic weight room \nState-of-the-art gym with free membership for students \nFully supervised, on-site sports therapy and rehabilitation centre with a sports injury clinic, open to staff, students and external athletes/clients \n\n**Partnerships and collaborations**\nWe are official partners of Luton Town FC and Bedford Blues RFC as well as other sporting organisations in the region such as Bedford Tigers RLFC, MK Dons, Cricket East and Be Active, giving you opportunities to build your employability through work placements.
