"summary": "**The BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science (including Foundation Year) is a four-year degree.**\n\nYou’ll gain the practical skills and knowledge needed to work in labs and hospitals across the NHS and private sector.\n\nIf you don’t yet meet the entry requirements for the three-year version, starting the course with a Foundation Year gives you a supported step up to university study.\n\n**WHY THIS COURSE**\n\nThe BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science (including Foundation Year) gives you key knowledge and modern strategies to diagnose and treat the human immune system, pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria, haematology and blood transfusion, cell pathology and mechanisms or neurological diseases.\n\nYou'll spend Year Zero on our Life Sciences Pathway, gaining an introduction to biology, chemistry for biology, and mathematics and statistics for life sciences. You’ll then choose whether to progress to the BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science, BSc (Hons) Biological Sciences or BSc (Hons) Marine Biology.\n\nIn Year One, you’ll participate in Science Week at Public Health England (PHE) in Colindale. In Year Two, you can visit hospitals in the Eastern Region and beyond. In your Final Year, you’ll attend our Biomedical Employability Day and have the chance to contribute to the IBMS Congress.\n\nYou’ll graduate on the path to a career as a biomedical scientist or medical researcher.",
