"summary": "**Why choose this course?**\n\nOur Photography degree takes a practical approach to exploring the photograph within a range of contemporary practices and contexts. \n\nYou’ll develop your understanding of the place of photographic work within leisure, commercial and cultural contexts, to understand the impact photography can have and the change it can inspire. We encourage you to explore the photograph within art, editorial, product, services and industry, communications, performance and entertainment. You’ll develop skills independently, so you can work to client commissions and function as a professional following graduation in photography. \n\nAs well as your assessed coursework, we encourage you to present your work to the public. There will be additional costs included in contributing to and setting up exhibitions, such as gallery hire, printing, mounting/framing and transport. These will vary depending on the venue and the number of participants.\n\nWe don’t expect students to arrive with their own high-end cameras, we have a range of Nikon digital cameras which can be loaned (subject to availability). You may wish to go on to purchase your own camera in your second year.\n\n**Our Photography course has been successful in the 2026 Guardian University Guide as part of the Film Production and Photography subject grouping:** \n\n**Ranked 16th nationally for Film Production and Photography**\n**Ranked 10th for Satisfied with Feedback for Film Production and Photography***\n\n**By studying at the University of Northampton, you can be sure that:**\n\n\n- Our expert academics teach in small groups supported with one-to-one assistance.
