"summary": "In MA (Master of Arts) Ancient History and Latin, you will study both the history of the Graeco-Roman world and the Latin language.\n\nThe programme is of particular educational value in that it will develop:\n\n\n* your disciplinary skills as a historian\n\n\n* your linguistic knowledge\n\n\n* your ability to interpret literature\n\n\nThe study of Latin will give you access to one of the world’s great literatures. You will read foundational texts of the western tradition in their original language, including:\n\n\n* epics\n\n\n* love poetry\n\n\n* oratory\n\n\n* history\n\n\nThe ability to read texts in Latin will also enrich and deepen your study of ancient history.\n\nYou will also have the opportunity to:\n\n\n* study the Greek and Roman civilisations from the Bronze Age to Late Antiquity and Byzantium\n\n\n* take courses on other ancient peoples and civilisations such as the Etruscans, the Persians and the Carthaginians\n\n\n**Programme benefits**\n\n\n* Study the history of ancient Greece and Rome, as well as other ancient civilisations that came into contact with the Greeks and Romans.\n\n\n* Classics at Edinburgh offers one of the widest choices of subjects and approaches of any university in the UK.\n\n\n* We are one of the largest groups of classics-focused academics in the UK, with around 30 members of staff covering a variety of research interests.\n",
