    "summary": "This four-year part-time course is designed for those who work in a paid or voluntary capacity with children, young people and families. It is particularly suited to those seeking employment in social work or social work-related professions, while keeping your options open as to which area of child and family work in which you want to specialise.\n\nYour ongoing work experience is a key element of the course and your theoretical learning will be grounded and critically examined in relation to your ongoing practice. Throughout the course, you’ll develop an understanding of theoretical perspectives and professional practice in relation to your current role. You’ll develop critical and conceptual understandings of children, young people and families and expand the range of perspectives that enhances your thinking and prepares you for your next professional role in the sector.\n\nThis includes exploration of ethical, professional, cultural and global considerations as well as insights from disciplines such as sociology, social policy, health and psychology. There's also a strong emphasis on engaging with research materials and processes.\n\nThere's a continued emphasis on helping you develop your academic skills to become an effective and reflective practitioner. We intentionally provide teaching in small group sizes so that you can actively engage in learning and be well-supported by your peers. The Lifelong Learning Centre (LLC) staff are dedicated to helping you achieve your academic and professional goals and make the most of the opportunities provided by the University.\n\n**Lifelong Learning Centre support**\nWe know that as a mature and/or part-time student, you may face unique challenges including balancing academic study with family and employment commitments. Whatever your concerns or questions, the Lifelong Learning Centre offers free specialist guidance, advice and support to mature and part-time students, from pre-application through to graduation and beyond.\n\nWe’ll welcome you into the LLC community, where you’ll be taught by our friendly and supportive staff, who are experienced in working with adult learners.
