"summary": "The Masters in Civil Engineering & Management introduces you to contemporary business and management issues while increasing your depth of knowledge in your chosen civil engineering speciality.\n\n**WHY THIS PROGRAMME**\n\n\n- The University of Glasgow has a long history of research in civil engineering. The UK's first Chair of Civil Engineering was established at the University in 1840 and early occupants such as William J. M. Rankine set a research ethos that has endured.\n\n\n- Civil Engineering at Glasgow is ranked 1st in Scotland (Complete University Guide 2025).\n\n\n- This degree is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) comprising of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE) and the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) and the Permanent Way Institution on behalf of the Engineering Council as meeting the academic requirement for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng). To hold accredited qualifications for CEng registration, candidates must also hold a Bachelor (Hons) degree that has been accredited as partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) - see www.jbm.org.uk for further information. It should be noted that candidates completing the MSc who hold an underpinning accredited Bachelor degree accredited for IEng only or a non-accredited bachelor degree will need to apply for an academic assessment to determine whether they will meet the educational base for CEng registration.\n\n\n- You will be taught jointly by staff from the School of Engineering and the Adam Smith Business School. You will benefit from their combined resources and expertise and from an industry-focused curriculum.\n\n\n- If you are a graduate engineer looking to broaden your knowledge of management while also furthering your knowledge of civil engineering, this innovative programme is designed for you.\n\n\n- You will gain first-hand experience of managing an engineering project through the integrated systems design project, allowing development of skills in project management, quality management and costing.\n\n\n- You will be able to apply management to engineering projects, allowing you to gain an advantage in today’s competitive job market and advance to the most senior positions within an engineering organisation.\n\n\n- The School of Engineering has an Athena Swan Silver Award, demonstrating the school’s commitment to supporting women in scientific studies and careers, and to improving the working environment for all.\n\n\n- This programme has a September and January intake.*\n\n\n*For suitably qualified candidates.\n\n**PROGRAMME STRUCTURE**\n\nThere are two semesters of taught material and a summer session during which you will work on an individual supervised project and write a dissertation on its outcomes. Students entering the programme in January are restricted to civil engineering (i.e. excluding management) topics only.\n\nYou will undertake an individual project or dissertation work in the summer period (May–August). This will give you an opportunity to apply and consolidate the course material and enhance your ability to do independent work, as well as present results in the most appropriate format. Project and dissertation options are closely linked to staff research interests. September entry students have a choice of management dissertation topics in addition to civil engineering projects, and January entry students have a choice of civil engineering projects.",
