"summary": "Our Climate & Environmental Science (MSc) provides multidisciplinary knowledge and expertise on the complex and challenging climate-related and environmental issues facing communities across the globe. We focus on the dynamics and interactions between the Earth’s surface, atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere at a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. Students organise their studies along a pathway based on their interests: climate, risk and response; developing in-depth and critical understanding of contemporary global issues related to climate system interactions; and biogeochemical interactions in organic and inorganic systems. Students will be trained in cutting-edge analytical equipment, computational methods and advanced field techniques. The programme is ideal for those keen to pursue a professional career or research in the study of climate-related and environmental challenges.\n\n**Why this programme**\n\n\n- Evaluate contemporary environmental and climate-related issues.\n\n\n- Learn from leading researchers through a diverse range of teaching modes and environments.\n\n\n- This programme offers a compulsory work-placement that will expose you to scenarios where you must understand and communicate complex information, deal with change, handle relationships, manage projects, and work with vulnerable communities\n\n\n- Engage with current sustainability challenges\n\n\n- Work collaboratively with local or international partners\n\n\n- Develop key applied skills through research-intensive training\n\n\n- Demonstrate attainment via innovative assessments\n\n\n**Programme structure**\nModes of delivery of the Climate & Environmental Science MSc include:\n\n\n- seminars\n\n\n- lectures\n\n\n- tutorials\n\n\n- fieldwork\n\n\n- work placements\n\n\n- independent projects\n\n\n- computer lab work\n\n\n- teamwork\n\n\n- UK field trips \n\n\n**Core modules**\n- Global Challenges 1: Living in a Changing Climate\n\n\n- Theoretical and Applied Climatology\n\n\n- Graduate Futures Work Placement\n\n\n- GES MSc Project\n\n\n- Academic and Professional Skills for GES PGT\n\n\n**Optional modules**\n- Global Challenges 2: Human-environment Lifecyles\n\n\n- Principles of GIS\n\n\n- Monitoring Water Environments\n\n\n- Managing Sustainable Water Environments: Policy and Practice\n\n\n- Ecology and Restoration of Water Environments\n\n\n- Introduction to Statistics for Environmental Analysis\n\n\n- Remote Sensing of the Environment\n\n\n- Modelling Water Environments\n\n\n- Topographic Modelling and Landscape Monitoring\n\n\n- Climates: Past and Future\n\n\n- Geo-Environmental Policy and Planning for Sustainable Futures \n\n\n**Programme alteration or discontinuation**\nThe University of Glasgow endeavours to run all programmes as advertised. In exceptional circumstances, however, the University may withdraw or alter a programme. For more information, please see: Student contract.\n\n**Career prospects**\nThis programme is challenge-led and interdisciplinary, equipping students with skills to work across sectors to address environmental issues. Through the diverse subjects offered and the multi-prongued programme approach, students can tailor their learning direction to gain knowledge, skills and experience to be well qualified for positions in:\n\n\n- environmental management, protection and restoration\n\n\n- environmental governance and planning\n\n\n- academia\n\n\n- international non-governmental organisations.\n",
