You’ll enhance your ability analyse complex data.\n\nDuring this course, you’ll explore and critically analyse theories, methodologies and paradigms of research that are relevant to some of society’s most pressing concerns – including climate change and sustainability.\n\nWith a focus on quantitative and qualitative research methods and approaches, you’ll gain the essential skills needed to progress your studies or become a professional researcher.\n\nUpon completion of this course, you will be able to demonstrate:\n\n\n- a critical understanding of research-based sustainability literature across a range of disciplines\n\n\n- comprehension of the relationships between theory and practice in the field of sustainability, individual and corporate responsibility\n\n\n- thorough and in-depth understanding of key debates relating to environmental challenges, and the resilience and adaptability of political and economic systems\n\n\n- detailed and comprehensive understanding of current issues across disciplines within the theme of sustainability\n\n\nYou’ll enhance your understanding of the techniques used in the analysis of large-scale data and how to effectively present key insights and findings.\n\nThis course is designed to provide high-quality training to potential doctoral students, as well as essential research skills that are desirable in a number of private and public sector roles. It is delivered through the University of Bath alongside our partner institutions:\n\n\n- University of Exeter\n\n\n- University of Bristol\n\n\n- University of the West of England\n\n\n**Why choose a Master of Research (MRes) degree**\n\nAn MRes is a master’s degree with a focus on research. The knowledge and expertise you’ll gain will prepare you for doctoral study and a range of non-academic careers that require strong research skills.\n\n**South West Doctoral Training Partnership**\n\nThis MRes is recognised by the Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC), specifically, as part of the larger South West Doctoral Training Partnership (SWDTP). It can be taken as a course in its own right, or if you hold an SWDTP studentship you can take the 1+3 (MRes + PhD) pathway.\n\nIf you wish to be considered for a 1+3 SWDTP studentship, then you must apply for your preferred PhD route and not the stand-alone MRes. You should follow our how to apply guidelines.\n\nFor those holding a 1+3 SWDTP studentship, progression from the MRes to the MPhil or PhD stage is dependent on an acceptable level of achievement.\n\n**Learn from experts in their field**\n\nYou’ll learn from experts in areas like climate change, sustainability and social responsibility.
