Students who do not yet hold a relevant undergraduate qualification are encouraged to consider the BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy course, UCAS code B630. \n\nApplicants must have a minimum 2:1 UK undergraduate honours degree (or international equivalent) and either have studied successfully to A-level standard or above in the last 5 years or obtained recent and significant relevant work experience (for example, working as a speech and language therapy assistant). Applicants require GCSE Maths or equivalent at grade C or above.\n\nThe 'personal statement' section of the application form is for you to provide additional information to support your application. Personal statement guidance can be found via the link in the 'How to apply for this course' section. Your personal statement is limited to 700 words.\n\nFrom the personal statement, we are looking for information in the areas listed below. If any of these areas are not addressed in the personal statement, this may significantly disadvantage your application. You’re therefore strongly advised to include information from all the areas.\n\nThe threshold score above which students are shortlisted for an interview may vary from year to year.\n\nReasons for choosing speech and language therapy\n\nWork experience\nPersonal attributes, skills and values\nAdditional requirements:\n\nA satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate as a criminal record check is required for all students. "summary": "**Overview**\n\n**Please note this is a postgraduate Masters course, designed for students who have already completed an undergraduate degree qualification. Applicants for undergraduate study should refer to BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy, UCAS code B630.**\n\nOur accelerated, two-year postgraduate course is aimed at graduates who wish to prepare to practise as a registered speech and language therapist. Our course content reflects the values of the NHS constitution and combines theory and practical sessions over 45 weeks per year. \n\nYou’ll study topics including developmental language disorder, stroke, and difficulties with eating, drinking or swallowing (dysphagia). You’ll explore areas such as autism and stammering, mental health, speech sound disorders, augmentative and alternative communication, and neurological conditions. \n\nYou’ll go on placement in both years of study and have further practice-based learning experiences. Some of the placements you might experience include working with children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) provision in clinic settings and schools, working with children with autism in a residential complex, and working with adults with learning disabilities and adults recovering from strokes in hospital. \n\n**Features and benefits**\n\n\n- **Placement opportunities** - You’ll spend at least 563 hours on placements to develop your clinical practice and have exposure to different settings.\n\n\n- **Specialist facilities** - You’ll have access to our on-campus ICON Centre, which features a wide range of specialist speech and language therapy equipment and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).\n\n\n- **Our expertise** - Our dedicated technicians help you to learn how to use our high-tech equipment and provide workshops and training on our specialist facilities. \n\n\n- **Accredited course** - When you graduate, you’re eligible to apply for professional registration with the HCPC, which means you can practise as a speech and language therapist, and to apply for membership of the RCSLT.\n\n\n- **Learn from experts** - You’ll learn from experienced and professionally registered speech and language therapists.\n\n\n- **Postgraduate community** - You can join our student-run Speech Society – past activities include guest lectures from people who use AAC and fundraising events. \n",
