The usual minimum requirement for entry is a 2:1 degree classification, but we consider all applications on their individual merits, taking the transcript, references and personal statement into account.\n\nApplicants who have degrees with Mathematics as a major component (e.g. physics or engineering) are also welcome to apply. In this case we may look for higher marks to offset the lower number of credits earned for mathematics modules.\nInternational qualifications: Applications from international students are welcome. International qualifications will be evaluated in line with the National Recognition Information Centre (NARIC) guidelines.",

"summary": "You can study this Mathematical Sciences MSc programme full-time or part-time. It offers students the opportunity to specialise in a broad range of areas across pure and applied mathematics, statistics and probability, and theoretical physics.\n\nThe topics we cover include:\n- advanced probability theory\n\n\n- algebra\n\n\n- asymptotic methods\n\n\n- geometry\n\n\n- mathematical biology\n\n\n- partial differential equations\n\n\n- quantum field theory\n\n\n- singularity theory\n\n\n- stochastic analysis\n\n\n- standard model/string theory.\n\n\nBy completing the first semester you qualify for the PG certificate. By completing the second, you qualify for the PG Diploma. Then, by completing your dissertation, you qualify for the MSc. You will need a 2:1 Honours degree in Mathematics or with Mathematics as a major component.\n\n**Why Department of Mathematical Sciences?**\n**Range and depth of study options**\nWe offer a very wide range of modules, from advanced algebra and geometry, to partial differential equations, probability theory, stochastic analysis, and mathematical physics. With these you can tailor your programme to specialise in one of these areas, or gain a broad understanding of several. This allows you to build up the required background for the project and dissertation modules, which offer the opportunity to undertake an in-depth study of a topic of your choice, supervised by a leading expert in the field. \n\n**Exceptional employability**\nAt Liverpool, we listen to employers’ needs. Alongside key problem solving skills, employers require strong communication skills. These are integral to this programme.
