"modules": "This Masters course has been developed for health professionals who are interested in a leadership roles within Respiratory Medicine. The MSc Respiratory Medicine aims to create professionals who can independently access information and use the information to critically assess, evaluate and disseminate the evidence base related to Respiratory Medicine. It will develop problem-solving and clinical skills together with preparing students to take a leadership role in Respiratory Medicine.\n\nMSc: One-year duration\n\nStudents progressing from the PG Diploma course do the one-year MSc consisting of the following modules:\n\n\nCore\n•Research Methodologies and Critical Appraisal in Respiratory Medicine (20 credits)\n\nOptional\n•Professional project: Respiratory Medicine (dissertation) (40 credits)\n•Independent Prescribing (40 credits)\n\nMSc: Two-year duration\n\nStudents who decide to enrol directly on to the MSc (rather than the PG Dip) will do the two-year version, which consists of the following modules:\n\nCore\n•Respiratory medicine – Symptoms, signs and investigations (20 credits)\n•Asthma and Allergy (20 credits)\n•Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (20 credits)\n•Thoracic oncology and pleural disease (20 credits)\n•Wider Respiratory Horizons (20 credits)\n•Other important respiratory conditions and diseases (20 credits)\n•Research Methodologies and Critical Appraisal in Respiratory Medicine (20 credits)\n\nOptional\n•Professional project: Respiratory Medicine (dissertation) (40 credits) or\n•Independent Prescribing (40 credits)\n\nOn completion of the course, you will be able to:\n•Demonstrate a systematic understanding of the care of patients in respiratory medicine.\n•Critically understand current issues affecting the care of patients undertaking respiratory treatments.\n•Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of respiratory medicine that will facilitate decision-making in unpredictable and/or complex situations.\n•Use knowledge to adapt professional practice to meet the changing demands of healthcare systems.\n•Apply knowledge of the wide range of therapies available to select the appropriate management choices for patients in clinical practice.\n•Demonstrate in depth knowledge and understanding of the scientific basis for therapeutics in the treatment and management of respiratory disease.\n•Critically evaluate information on emerging treatment pathways, including drug and non-drug therapies relevant to respiratory medicine.",
