"entryRequirements": "A 2:1 or 1st class honours degree, or international equivalent, in any of the following fields:\npsychology\nneuroscience\nlinguistics\nEnglish language and literature\nmodern languages\na medical discipline, such as biomedical science or medicine\nWe will also consider your application if you have a first degree in a different subject plus relevant industry experience.\n\nYour degree must have been obtained by the time of application. You will need to upload the degree certificate using the Applicant Portal (https://applyto.newcastle.ac.uk/SignIn?returnUrl=/).\n\nYou are required to have practical experience of working in or observing speech language therapy clinics, or closely related experience such as:\n\nworking in a care or nursing home\nworking with children with special needs or adults with disabilities \nworking with individuals with learning disabilities\nImportant information for students\n\nStudents undertaking a Speech and Language Science degree have unsupervised contact with children or vulnerable adults. The School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences must ensure students undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to confirm they are fit to practise. \n\nThe School reserves the right to discontinue the studies of any student who receives an unsatisfactory DBS disclosure. \n\nVisit the UK Government's website for more DBS information (https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/disclosure-and-barring-service)\n\nWhat we are looking for in applicants\n\nYou will need the following to study this degree:\n\nexcellent spoken and written communication and organisational skills\nto be able to work in a physically demanding environment (e.g. on clinical placement)\nemotional resilience and patience when helping people who find it hard to communicate\nto be personally attuned to the NHS values as stated in the NHS constitution\nYou will be asked to undertake Occupational Health checks prior to the course.
