"summary": "The Master of Research in Humanities offers you the opportunity to pursue a bespoke, one-to-one programme of Masters study in a structured, interdisciplinary and research-driven environment. In it, you will undertake an extended piece of research within a programme of study designed together between you and your supervisor(s). The MRes Humanities can be pursued for personal or career development, or as a stepping-stone to doctoral study (PhD) and is available across a broad range of disciplines in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities including communications, media, and culture, English, Scottish, French, Spanish and Latin American literature, film and cinema, history, law, linguistics, philosophy, politics, and religion.\n\nWe have particularly strong offerings in the following areas, among others:\n\nEighteenth-Century and Victorian Studies\nGothic studies\nHistory of the book / history of reading\nRenaissance studies\nScottish studies\nFrench language and literature\nSpanish and Latin American language and literature\nTranslation\nCommunication and media\nStaff members who have recently supervised students on the course include:\n\nProfessor Christine Ferguson\nProfessor Katherine Halsey\nDr Andrew Hass\nDr Kelsey Jackson Williams\nDr Christina Johnston\nDr Aedin Ni Loingsigh\nProfessor Nina Parish\nDr Angus Vine\nThe MRes Humanities is a one-year, research-oriented taught course. You’re allocated a supervisor or supervisors, and together you’ll plan a curriculum that reflects your interests and needs. Much of your work is made up of self-directed research, with scheduled supervisory meetings to help guide you, discuss your work and review draft submissions. In addition, however, you will have a wide array of learning opportunities that complement your research, including specialist courses giving you the expertise needed to successfully complete your project.\n\nThe Faculty of Arts and Humanities welcomes students from all backgrounds, and has a longstanding tradition of supporting innovative, cross-disciplinary and forward-looking projects. Our research student community is international, diverse and plays a key role in the research culture of the Faculty, with staff and students working together on new initiatives. Students in Arts and Humanities can participate in the wider culture of the University through the Institute for Advanced Studies.",
