"summary": "The MMus Composition programme, is a pathway designed to explore your compositional voice. Embarking on your tailored learning journey, our tutors will apply their expertise to support your creative and professional development.\n\nComposition students have opportunities to work in the superb electroacoustic and recording studios, devise new work in our purpose-built performance venues, and complete an optional second study in performance. You will be working with our diverse and talented performing community in some of the best facilities in Europe.\n\nPerforming new work is of paramount importance to us. The Composition department has a significant reputation for contemporary music. PLUG – our critically acclaimed annual festival – is a renowned platform for premiering hundreds of new works. Our professional partnerships with leading ensembles and orchestras will provide you with further opportunities to hear your pieces performed.\n\nComposition can be a solitary existence, but our Composition programme aims to challenge and provide students with collaborative experiences with artists from dance, theatre, film, and musical theatre disciplines to develop their skills.\n\n**International students on Student visas are not permitted to undertake any of the part-time routes.**\n\n**Curriculum Review** \nWe are currently in the review cycle for our postgraduate music programmes starting in 2026, these courses are currently designated 'subject to validation'. "sponsorshipInformation": "Within the School of Music, the majority of scholarship awards are made in January following an audition and offer of a place at the RCS. Scholarships are made based on ability and potential with some for financial need. Many School of Music scholarships are made for the duration of the programme. "additionalAuditionInformation": "All applicants need to complete an Acceptd account profile and application regardless of which location you choose, this is part of the audition process (https://app.getacceptd.com/rcs) and needs to be completed once your UCAS application has been submitted. All applicants submitting portfolios, will go through a two round process, regardless of your audition location. If successful, the second round will be either a live in-person interview or a live online interview (depending on your audition location choice), with the Head of Department. For the best audition experience, we would encourage all UK applicants (and where possible international applicants) to attend in-person.
