"summary": "This programme provides flexible advanced training for students wishing to develop their knowledge and expertise in music and audiovisual media. It incorporates creative practice and research, allowing you to develop your skills according to your own interests and specialisms.\n\nThe programme allows you to specialise in areas such as sound-design and composition for moving image media, film and gaming to an advanced level, utilising the industry standard facilities within the Department of Music. You can also develop your knowledge and research skills through approaches to audiovisual media including musicology, critical theory and textual analysis.\n\nFilm, television, the gaming industry and web based audiovisual content creation are at once expanding areas for employment for music graduates and the subject of a burgeoning field of academic study. The MA Composition for Film, TV and Games responds to both of these developments by offering both practice-based and critical studies pathways.\n\n**Why Music?**\n**Lively study environment**\nAs a postgraduate student you'll be able to attend research seminars involving guest speakers from many disciplines and subdisciplines. You'll also be closely involved in concerts performed by professional musicians and students and, if appropriate to your specialism, will have opportunities to perform in our exciting new venue, the Tung Auditorium.\n\n**Performance culture**\nThe Department of Music offers an engaging environment for performers, with ample opportunity to get involved in performances. Our Lunchtime Concert Series regularly showcases student work.\n\n**Institute of Popular Music (IPM)**\nOur Institute of Popular Music (IPM) was the first academic centre created specifically to study popular music – and where better than in the home of the Beatles? It also boasts an enviable archive of donated recorded material.\n\n**The Interdisciplinary Centre for Composition and Technology (ICCaT)**\nThe Department of Music is home to ICCaT, which investigates how music composition and sonic artforms intersect with new technology, performance and perception. ICCaT's research is focussed both on musical practice as well as developing technological resources and software-based tools for creative practitioners and analysis\n\n**Tung Auditorium**\nDue to open in spring 2022, the Tung Auditorium is a 400-seat, acoustically optimised music performance space, capable of facilitating full orchestras. The Auditorium will be a high-performance acoustic space to support the requirements of the Department of Music and will exist as a public-facing space for concerts outside of teaching time.\n\n**Working in partnership with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra**\nWe are intrinsically connected to the city, working closely with musical and cultural partners, including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. This particular partnership extends across the spectrum of the Department’s activities, with the Orchestra’s musicians making frequent visits to campus to provide activities which include postgraduate composition workshops and specialist performance masterclasses. Liverpool Philharmonic players frequently participate in MMus ensemble assessments.\n\n**Strong research culture**\nAcross the department, our research activity has a strong interdisciplinary nature and is concentrated in three cross-cutting areas:\n- Critical and Contextual Approaches\n\n\n- Creative Practice\n\n\n- Media and Industry Studies.\n\n\nResearch students participate fully in our research activity. They present papers at the department's research seminars, and work as Teaching Assistants within the School (with pedagogical training and support provided). There are also weekly research, career, and teaching seminars for all postgrads.",
