In the 'Additional optional' lists, students can only take up to two of the modules in each list. \n\nHere is a sample of optional modules that may be offered. \n\n1.\tArtificial Intelligence Practice\n2.\tArtificial Intelligence Principles \n3.\tData-Intensive Systems \n4.\tHuman Computer Interaction Principles and Methods \n5.\tInformation Visualisation\n6.\tInteractive Software and Hardware\n7.\tKnowledge Discovery and Datamining\n8.\tLanguage and Computation \n9.\tPrinciples of Computer Communication Systems\n10.\tUser-Centred Interaction Design\n\nAdditional optional modules: \nStudents may take up to two of the following: \n\n1.\tAdvanced Communication Networks and Systems \n2.\tComputer Architecture\n3.\tComputer Graphics \n4.\tComputer Security \n5.\tConcurrency and Multi-Core Architectures\n6.\tConstraint Programming \n7.\tDistributed Systems \n8.\tLogic and Software Verification\n9.\tProgramming Language Design and Implementation \n10.\tVideo Games \n\nStudents may take up to two of the following:\n \n1.\tDatabase Management Systems \n2.\tInformation Security Management \n3.\tWeb Technologies\n\nDissertation Project:\nDuring the second semester, students work with staff to define and agree upon a topic for the extended project, which they will work on during the final three months of the course, and which culminates in a 15,000-word dissertation. Dissertation projects may be group-based or completed individually (students are assessed individually in either case). \n\nThe dissertation typically comprises: \n\na review of related work \nthe extension of existing ideas or the development of new ideas \nsoftware implementation and testing \nanalysis and evaluation. \nStudents are required to give a presentation of their work in addition to the written dissertation. \n\nEach project is supervised by one or two members of staff, typically through regular meetings and reviews of software and dissertation drafts. \n\nIf students choose not to complete the dissertation requirement for the MSc, there is an exit award available that allows suitably qualified candidates to receive a Postgraduate Diploma instead, finishing the course at the end of the second semester of study.",

Based on their performance in this assessment, students will be advised to attend targeted support sessions during the year to improve language and academic skills.\n\nThis assessment is required, but will not count towards the final degree classification.",
