"summary": "Are you interested in how modern languages shape our understanding and experiences in the world? Do you have a particular intercultural topic you would like to research?\n\nWe offer expert supervision in a variety of subjects, allowing you to focus on an area of your choice within your discipline. Follow your intercultural research interests to a deeper level in a department ranked 6th nationally in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021.\n\nHaving completed a masters degree and agreed your research topic with a supervisor, you will continue your research with a PhD exploring themes from our wide field of specialisms. \n\nWe have particular strengths in the cultural contexts of:\n\n\n- French and Francophone studies\n\n\n- Hispanic and Lusophone studies\n\n\n- Russian and Slavonic studies\n\n\n- German studies\n\n\n- Chinese studies\n\n\nWe also welcome projects involving film, TV and media studies.\n\n\"We have a very active and dynamic research community where students and academics work on projects across many disciplines.
