"summary": "**Course overview**\n\nThis route is for practitioners who already have research experience (conducted either alone or collaboratively) and have published academic publications, papers or journal articles.\n\nFor this route, you’ll usually produce a thesis of eight to 12 thematically linked publications. A supervisory team will support you during your PhD as you add further publications to your existing body of published work.\n\nYou’ll submit a critical commentary of 10,000 – 15,000 words and your work will be examined. You’ll be questioned on aspects of this work and you’ll have the opportunity to respond constructively in a viva voce exam.\n\nPast and current examples of PhD by publication undertaken by medics include: dementia and cancer care; emergency medical education and the interface with social media; advances in multidisciplinary tracheostomy care and their impact on the safety and quality of care in the critically ill.\n\n**Features and benefits**\n\n\n- A route designed for academics and clinicians with existing research experience and published journal articles, academic publications or papers.\n\n\n- You’ll build on your current published material to gain a doctoral qualification.\n\n\n- You can complete this accelerated route on a full-time (two years) or part-time (four years) basis, to fit with your work commitments.\n\n\n- Research in our Faculty brings together internationally recognised and multidisciplinary researchers in six established Research Groups: Mental Health; Social and Cognitive Ageing; Global Perspectives, Marginalisation and Thriving Communities; Stress, Health and Performance; Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation and Communication Disability.\n",
