"summary": "Join our research team to work on projects that have real-world impact. From optimisation for airports to machine learning for energy suppliers, we explore computer science from theory to application.\n\nOur research topics include:\n\n\n- agent-based systems\n\n\n- artificial intelligence\n\n\n- computational optimisation\n\n\n- computer vision\n\n\n- data science\n\n\n- functional programming\n\n\n- human-computer interaction\n\n\n- machine learning\n\n\nYou'll meet with your supervisor at least 10 times per year. Most of our students have 15-20 meetings per year.\n\nOur research groups hold regular seminars which PhD students can attend.\n\nIn the 2019 Postgraduate Research Experience Survey, the School of Computer Science was ranked highly in:\n\n\n- resources\n\n\n- progress and assessment\n\n\n- responsibilities\n\n\n- research skills\n\n\nOur Graduate School can help you develop your research skills through:\n\n\n- paid work placements\n\n\n- training courses\n\n\n- public engagement opportunities\n\n\nYou can also apply for travel funding to help you collaborate and present your research overseas.\n\nMany PhD graduates choose to continue an academic career. You may start with a postdoctoral position or a teaching fellowship. However, there is a need for PhD graduates in industry too.
