"entryRequirements": "Degree \nYou will normally have a minimum of a 2:2 undergraduate honours degree awarded by a UK university, or an equivalent higher education qualification. Your degree needs to support the subject knowledge requirements of the curriculum for religious education. We are not able to consider Level 3 qualifications (e.g. A-levels, BTECs) as an alternative to GCSE English language and mathematics.\n \nSuccessful candidates will demonstrate a good understanding of teaching and learning within a secondary school setting. You may be able to evidence your understanding by drawing on related examples or experiences, such as time spent in schools, other educational settings or wider research and reading. \n \nIf you are due to graduate or have graduated within the last three years your principal referee must be a university lecturer from where you graduated. \n\nOther requirements \n\nAppropriate post-16 qualifications. \nAn ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English. \nExcellent interpersonal skills. \nAn informed and realistic understanding of the complexities and challenge of teaching in a secondary school. \nAn understanding of how learning develops within an engaging rich and broad context, with recognition of the contribution made by parents and carers. \nPersonal qualities and abilities appropriate to becoming an effective teacher, including a strong motivation to teach young students, an ability to express personal views with clarity and conviction, to listen and respond appropriately to the views of others, awareness of, and commitment to, issues relating to equal opportunities and providing all students with an inclusive learning environment. \nAn awareness of the importance of safeguarding within educational contexts. \nIntellectual capacity to critically reflect upon experience and personal challenges. \n \nA Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced Check and DfE Fitness to Teach occupational health clearance is required before you can enrol on this course. \n \nOverseas \nOverseas candidates should have Cambridge Proficiency in English or IELTS Band 7 with no less than 6.0 in any element, taken within two years of course start date. "suggest": "PGCE Secondary Religious Education with QTS*. Manchester Metropolitan University. Religious studies. Religious education (secondary teaching). Teaching (secondary teaching)",
"summary": "You’ll explore all aspects of religious education (RE) including different faiths, philosophy and ethics. It is a requirement that all schools teach RE however this can vary widely between schools.   \n  \nYou’ll explore different curriculum models and how to approach the wide variety of topics with a range of learners. During sessions, you’ll explore a range of faiths and often make use of peer teaching where everyone can share their own knowledge and experiences.   \n  \nThroughout the course, you’ll develop your subject knowledge and consider how to approach teaching topics in the classroom. In addition to specific religions, you’ll consider broader issues such as human rights and peace and conflict.  \n  \nApproaching controversial topics in a classroom is a potential challenge so you’ll explore pedagogic approaches such as debating or philosophy for children. You’ll also look at cognitive theories and how you can support your pupils to develop examination techniques to be able to write about complex issues as part of assessments.    \n  \nThe university is well placed for you to explore religious education in its broadest sense. There are opportunities to visit a variety of local places of worship and speak to members of the local multi-faith community.  You’ll also consider how you can arrange such visits for your own classes to allow the curriculum to come alive. We also have guest speakers. In previous years they have come from educational organisations including exam boards.   \n\nFEATURES AND BENEFITS\n- Employability - You will have the knowledge, skills and experience to teach religious education at Key Stage 3, GCSE and potentially A/AS-level.\n\n\n- Teaching experience - You will spend at least the minimum Department for Education (DfE) required time in schools (approximately 120 days) on placements in schools, gaining experience in secondary schools.\n\n\n- Postgraduate credits - When you graduate, you’ll achieve 60 masters’ level credits (this is one-third of a masters degree). You can put these towards a masters degree to help you develop your new career.\n\n\n- Partnerships - We have partnerships with over 500 schools, colleges and educational organisations, meaning we are able to provide students with a range of school experiences.\n\n\n- Research-led teaching - Our research centre, the Education and Social Research Institute (ESRI), ranks in the UK’s top 10 for research power in education (Research Excellence Framework, 2021).\n\n\n- Student support - You’ll receive guidance throughout your journey, including academic support from subject tutors and professional mentoring while on placements, helping you develop the skills and knowledge to meet Teachers’ Standards.  \n",
