"assessmentMethods": "We assess students in a number of ways; practical portfolios, written essays, presentations, showreels, broadcast analysis reports, live scenarios and one exam. We offer written and verbal feedback for everything submitted and we regularly create opportunities for peer review sessions. Here’s a quick run through how those assessments breakdown across the various modules. \n\nTELEVISION BROADCASTING (SSP7149)\n1x1200 word essay and a practical portfolio consisting of 3xpieces of TV content. \n\nRADIO & DIGITAL BROADCASTING (SSP150)\n1x1200 word essay and two practical portfolios, one consisting of 3xpieces of audio content, and one made up of 2xpieces of short-form digital content. \n\nETHICS, MEDIA LAW & LANDSCAPE (SSP7151)\n1x2000 word essay regarding a contemporary area in Broadcast Media and 1x 2hour Media Law Exam.\n\nRESEARCH SKILLS IN JOURNALISM & DOCUMENTARY\n1x3000 word proposal for your final project documentary. One 12-15minute presentation “Broadcast Pitch” to sell your documentary to a broadcast platform.\n\nPROFESSIONAL BROADCAST PLACEMENT\nThis module is split into two elements; Internal and External. The Internal placement runs all year and involves working within our Cardiff Met Sport TV / Audio & Digital platforms covering Cardiff Met University Sport on a weekly basis. The External part is based around a 15day work placement with an external broadcaster, platform, brand or sports organisation. Both elements are then written up as reflective essays and fed back as presentations. Plus we ask students to create a broadcast showreel and write up a mini broadcast project. There is also a mark for overall contribution to the internal placement.\n\nDISSERTATION\nThe final project is to produce a Sport Broadcast Documentary. It can either be a 15minute video documentary or a 30minute audio documentary. This is accompanied by a 2000 word reflective essay.",
"entryRequirements": "Applicants for the MSc in Sport Broadcast are expected to satisfy the following requirements:\n\n- A good honours degree (normally 2.1 or above) ideally in any Sport, Broadcast, Media or Journalism or Humanities subject\n- Or students with 2.1 degrees in other subjects, provided they have a passion for sports media and / or digital broadcast technology and a desire to find and tell fascinating sports stories.\n\nExceptional entry routes may be available to applicants with significant and relevant industry experience. Usually more than 3 years experience in print, radio or TV journalism or Sport related PR/communications. \nCandidates with extensive experience in elite level sport may also be considered. \nAll exceptional entry routes are available for non-graduates will be in line with the University criteria for the admission of students to modular Masters Degrees (and for Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma programmes). \nA student who has successfully completed modules in a similar programme at another institution might gain direct entry onto the programme as long as they have satisfied the aforementioned entry requirements and meet the University Criteria for the admission of students to modular Master’s Degrees, and to Postgraduate Diploma programmes – advanced standing.\n\nInternational Applicants\nStudents whose first language is not English will need to provide evidence of fluency to at least an IELTS 6.5 standard or equivalent. "summary": "Want to work in the Sports Broadcast Industry? Then this is the course for you.\n\nThis master's degree with a practical focus, is designed and delivered by sports broadcast industry professionals to create practitioners of Sport Broadcast and prepare them to be “industry ready” for employment in sport broadcast journalism and right across the sport media industry. The master's degree course has been written in collaboration with sport broadcast journalists from the BBC, ITV, and Sky Sports. We teach traditional sports broadcast journalism for the digital, new media age. Emphasis is given to live event production, broadcast news journalism and multi-platform digital storytelling.\n\nStudents will develop and master a wide spectrum of broadcast journalism production skills, learn to self-shoot and edit, record and produce audio, create digital content while sharpening their journalistic instinct, news values and editorial judgment. They will critically examine the reciprocal relationship between socio-political issues, modern media coverage and professional sport. Students will also study media law, and analyse how ethics, a sense of fairness, impartiality, accuracy and a robust knowledge of regulations and rights play a crucial part in operating within the modern fast-changing sport broadcasting landscape.\n\nThe inclusion of a significant work placement module (60 credits) in this sports broadcast journalism degree offers the opportunity to work in our internal broadcast unit across the academic year creating video and audio content for Cardiff Met Sport TV, producing our weekly podcasts, highlights and live TV sports shows, holding press conferences and livestreaming university sports matches. This module also provides a second placement opportunity with one of our external broadcast partners. We have placement opportunities with all the major broadcasters and production companies in Wales and further afield for students who are prepared to travel; these include a number of Welsh medium placement opportunities.\n\nThroughout this programme, students will gain practical, real-world experience of various broadcast roles; presenter, reporter, producer, director, videographer, camera operator, floor manager, video editor, social media producer, commentator, live-stream engineer, and all-round broadcast and mobile journalist. \n\nIn addition to this students will learn to research, network and build contacts, elevating their sports reporting and writing skills to the next level and mastering the art of story-telling and content creation in the fast-changing digital age through social media platforms, blogging, vlogging, livestreams and podcasts. Students this year have enjoyed placements with BBC, ITV, Sky Sports, DAZN, Perform, Orchard Media, BT Sport, Whisper Films, Sunset & Vine, World Rugby, WRU, Made In Cardiff, S4C, Glamorgan Cricket, Swansea City, Cardiff Devils, Sport Wales and many other local and national broadcasters, production companies, sports organisations and governing bodies. Our alumni are now working in full time positions with Sky Sports, BBC Sport, S4C Sport, Livewire Sports and in the Premier League. \n\nRegular guest speakers include several award winning presenters, reporters, journalists, producers, directors, camera operators, editors and lighting experts: Jason Mohammad (BBC Sport), Lauren Jenkins (Premier Sport), Andrew Cotter (BBC Sport) Eddie Butler (BBC commentator), Frances Donovan (Premier League TV presenter), Ross Harries & Sean Holley (from BBC ScrumV) Carolyn Hitt (Wales Online & BBC), Dylan Ebenezer (S4C/ Sgorio presenter), Nick Hartley (ITV/ITN reporter) and Alan Wilkins (ESPN & Eurosport presenter).",
