It provides a supportive entry point if you do not yet meet the requirements for direct entry onto a degree, or if you are returning to study.\n\nDuring the year, you will develop the knowledge and skills needed to understand how people, places and environments are studied across time. You will explore key ideas from the social sciences and begin to consider how evidence is used to understand past societies and human activity.\n\nYou will build a strong foundation in the social sciences while developing essential academic and professional skills such as communication, critical thinking, teamwork and independent learning. Through project work and practical activities, you will begin to explore real-world questions and develop your skills in research, analysis and problem-solving.\n\nThe programme offers a broad introduction to the study of people and the past, providing a strong foundation for progression onto an archaeology degree, where you will develop more specialised knowledge and practical skills.\n\nThe Foundation Year uses a range of teaching methods to support your transition to university-level study.
