You’ll explore some of today’s most pressing social issues, from crime and harm to identity, culture, inequality, housing and community change. You’ll learn to connect the big picture with the everyday, and the personal with the political.\n\nStudying sociology and criminology together gives you a wider lens. You’ll look at how power operates, how social norms are created, and how justice systems shape people’s lives. You’ll challenge assumptions, analyse evidence and build the confidence to ask difficult questions - and answer them.\n\nThroughout your degree, you’ll learn to think critically, communicate clearly and understand the relationship between individuals, society and the state. You’ll also have the chance to take a placement year, giving you real‑world experience in settings like criminal justice, housing, youth work, charities, social policy and community organisations. By the time you graduate, you’ll be ready to make sense of a complex world - and make a difference in it.\n\nIf you choose a placement year, you’ll gain valuable experience in professional settings.
